Weather in Zanzibar

Weather in Zanzibar is tropical, with average temperature going from 27°C/80°F during summer to approximately 24°C/75°F during winter.

  • July-October: it’s the best time of the year since days are long and characterized by dry weather with low humidity. Temperature is approximately 25°C/77°F
  • November-March: it is a nice time of the year for hot-weather lovers. The weather is cooler during rainy season (Mid-April until the end of May).

The Indian Ocean surrounding Zanzibar is nicely warm throughout the year, with an average temperature of 27°C/80°F.

In Zanzibar, high and low tide alternate significantly.

Every six hours the tide changes, moving the coastline by 150/200 meters. During low tide, you can reach and enjoy the coral reef. In our resort, snorkeling equipment is provided for free.

Zanzibar is 6° south from the equator, so sunscreen is necessary as well as sunglasses and hats. Humidity is generally high: on average temperature is approximately 27°(80°F).

Tanzanian shilling is the national currency, but euros and American dollars are generally accepted. Credit cards are generally accepted in most hotels and shops. But some shops and all local markets don’t accept them. A 5 to 10 % increase is applied by local banks on credit card transactions.

It is more advisable to drink water coming only from sealed bottles. In our resort, the water is bacteriologically pure, coming from private reservoirs and periodically controlled. It is a risk-free water.

A valid passport together with a Tanzanian VISA is necessary. You can get the VISA by contacting the Embassy of Tanzania or the High Commission. It is advisable to contact one of them 14 days before departure. You can also get the VISA at the arrival airport ($50).

Even though it is not necessary, preventive care against malaria and yellow fever is advisable. Preventive care against yellow fever is advisable if you arrive in Tanzania or in Zanzibar coming from other African countries. Nevertheless, as a precaution, all rooms at the Fruit & Spice Wellness Resort have mosquito nets on the beds. We also spray anti-mosquito products every night. During the night, we suggest using additional mosquito repellent since mosquitos are present in some period of the year.

Zanzibar: what to bring?

All rooms at Fruit & Spice Resort have a safe for your personal belongings. We kindly suggest putting in the safe everything you care about since you are responsible for your own belongings. Management holds responsibility only for the objects in the safes.

Fruit & Spice Wellness Resort provides a mobile phone and a SIM card linked to a local operator for the duration of your stay. Prices are low and the card can be charged at the Vanilla Center. The mobile phone will have maximum access to the free Wi-Fi available all over the resort.

Before departure it is advisable to consult your family doctor to be sure about your health condition. If you take drugs regularly or if you’re undergoing a specific treatment, be sure to have all the medicines you need with you.

Animals are not admitted at the Fruit & Spice Wellness Resort.

In Zanzibar, plugs normally have three flat tips (UK style) with 220-240V AC, 50 Hz. In our resort, on the contrary, European plugs are available together with adaptors you can buy in our boutique. Zanzibar suffers from frequent energy interruptions, but inside the resort a private generator makes it possible to always have electricity.

Fruit & Spice payment and other information

Our rooms and our pools are not equipped for children under 12 years old. It will be the management discretion to welcome families with young children.

Inside the resort all extras will be charged to the room. It is not possible to use cash inside the resort to pay for services. It is advisable to leave cash and credit cards inside the safe in your room. The products sold at the Vanilla Center are not considered services.

We need an e-mail from you with the time of your arrival and departure:

  • Check-in: from 2 pm to 10 pm of your arrival day.
  • Check-out: rooms must be freed before 11 am.
  • Arrivals after 10 pm: it is necessary to notify the arrival.

Yes, we offer transfers from and to our Resort. All our transfers are made through a local partner and authorized by the Transportation Department with according the law.

For the safety of our clients, we only work with agencies and tour operators recognized by the Zanzibar Department of Tourism.

It is strictly forbidden to smoke in all rooms; Zanzibar’s straw roofing and wood structures (Makuti) are easily inflammable so please pay attention to flames and cigarette butts.

You can smoke in the private dehors, in the first floor or on balconies, equipped with ashtrays.

  • From 30 to 15 days: 75% refund
